AAMC Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs)

The AAMC published new guidelines in May 2014 to provide expectations for both learners and teachers that included 13 activities that all medical students should be able to perform upon entering residency, regardless of their future career specialty. The guidelines are based on emerging literature documenting a performance gap at the transition point between medical school and residency training. Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs) were chosen as the framework for the guide because they offer a practical approach to assessing competence in real-world settings and impact both learners and patients.

COMLEX-USA Level 1 Blueprint

For osteopathic schools, the COMLEX-USA Level 1 examination is an important and rigorous exam that occurs typically after the first two years of medical school are complete. The topics found on the COMLEX-USA Level 1 exam are broken down on the NBOME website into two distinct dimensions, Competency Domains, and Clinical Presentations. These fit nicely in Leo as two distinct Theme Collections, however, you could add these as Themes in a two, or one-level approach as well, depending on the needs of your institution.

We have provided a .csv file that has the Blueprint broken down so that it can be imported into Leo as two separate Theme Collections. However, you may want to edit the Theme Collection and Theme Set columns to make sure these Themes fit within your Theme organizational structure in Leo.

USMLE Step 1 Content Outline

The Step 1 exam from the USMLE is an important and rigorous exam for students at allopathic medical schools, and it is usually taken at the end of the second year of medical school. The USMLE has provided a content outline for students and medical schools as a reference. We've broken down the topics in the content outline available from the USMLE into Themes that can be utilized to "tag" your curriculum in Leo. These topics all come from Table 1 of the USMLE Blueprint. As topics from Tables 2 and 3 overlaps with the PCRS competencies and the AAMC Keywords, we suggest using those competencies and Themes to further break down and organize your curriculum-related content in Leo.

We have provided a .csv file that has the Content Outline broken down so that it can be imported into Leo as a single Theme Collection. However, you may want to edit the Theme Collection and Theme Set columns to make sure these Themes fit within your Theme organizational structure in Leo.
