Creating a Group Lottery
Updated onArticleThere are a two components that should be considered before you create a new Group Lottery record. Determining the following before creating a new Lottery record is our recommended best practice.
- Group Access: Which group(s) of students will be participating in the lottery? Students that are participating in your lottery should be part of a group(s) that can be assigned access. While multiple groups can be assigned access, it is important to note that every student within the groups that have been assigned will have access to rank their lottery selections.
- Elements: Elements are the things that students will be ranking. These can be Groups, Events, Long Events, or Course Sections. For the easiest workflow, you should make sure that the elements already exist within your system before creating your lottery record. Keep in mind, that events and course sections can be created in bulk via the data entry tool in the Admin Toolbar.

Updated onArticleLeo provides you with the capability to preview the results of your Lottery before you finalize them. This allows you to run your Lotteries with confidence, examine your results, and make sure you're happy with the outcome before the results are released to students.

- Group Access: Which group(s) of students will be participating in the lottery? Students that are participating in your lottery should be part of a group(s) that can be assigned access. While multiple groups can be assigned access, it is important to note that every student within the groups that have been assigned will have access to rank their lottery selections.
- Elements: Elements are the things that students will be ranking. These can be Groups, Events, Long Events, or Course Sections. For the easiest workflow, you should make sure that the elements already exist within your system before creating your lottery record. Keep in mind, that events and course sections can be created in bulk via the data entry tool in the Admin Toolbar.
- Blocks: Leo will automatically create your Blocks for a Course Block Lottery, but you should ensure all of the beginning and end dates for the course sections match up appropriately.

Lottery/Signup Listing
Updated onArticleThe Lottery Report displays a list of Lotteries for a given status. Those statuses are:
- Open: This is every Lottery that is not closed, deleted, or in preview mode.
- Preview: These Lotteries have been run, but the results have not been used to update the element(s) (Courses/Sections, Events, Long Event, or Groups) in the Lottery.
- Finalized: These Lotteries have been run and the Students placed in the elements they were awarded.
- Deleted: These Lotteries have been deleted. You can undelete these Lotteries if you want.

- Course
- Course (Block)
- Event
- Long Event
- Group
It is important to determine which type of lottery would best suit your specific situation before you begin creating the Lottery record.
